SQL Injection Attacks Receiving All Sorts Of Attention

Here's a tiny bit of good news for SQL experts: when a non-techie asks what you do, it's now less likely that your response will garner a blank stare. Unfortunately, this is because SQL injection attacks are becoming common to the point that the mainstream press is catching on.
Byron Acohido recently wrote for USA Today, "The trend started last summer and has continued to accelerate. IBM Internet Security Systems says it identified 50% more infected Web pages in the last three months of 2008 than it did in all of 2007."
Acohido then went on to explain the SQL injection attacks in comprehensible terms. He also tossed out a couple of quotes about infections affecting thousands of PCs and regional banks being at risk. Not the sort of stuff that would cause people to become disinterested or put them at ease, in other words.
So it looks like SQL's image could be in for a little tarnishing. It'll be a matter of debate whether or not any amount of increased awareness is worth a negative connotation.
The SQL injection attack trend could at least result in the advice of honest SQL pros becoming all the more valued, though, and considering what the job market and economy look like, this would represent a solid silver lining.
